Chapter 7: I’m not a Freak Anymore

|| TL: Tori ||

Normally, summer vacation would be over as I devote myself to video games, anime, and idols, and I’d be heading off to school with everyone giving me bleak looks as I got fatter and fatter…….

“Hey, who are those three hot guys?”

“Well, they look like sophomores in their uniforms, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen them before.”

“Are they transfer students or something?”

“That big boy walking in the middle, he’s really good looking ♫ He’s my type…I should talk to him later…”

“I’m sure he’s got a girlfriend?”

“I don’t know about that. Even if he did, it wouldn’t be a big deal.”

The boys and girls at the school were whispering to each other when they saw us pass through the main gate. The actual “I’m afraid of the eyes of the people” is a very important part of the conversation.

“Tatsumi-kun,……I’m afraid of the way everyone looks at me…….”

I look at Keisuke’s face as he shows me his moist eyes, which are hidden by his blue hair and long bangs, and I open my mouth while tapping him on his toned shoulders.

“I’m not worried about it. But if you need anything, call me.”

” ……Yes, I’m……I’ll be in touch with you…….”

I smile at Keisuke, then look at Manabu and Keisuke in turn as I speak.

“I’ll see you at lunchtime at our usual place.”

“Oh! I’ll see you at the usual place at lunchtime. Good luck in class too, Tatsumi!”

Manabu gives me a thumbs-up, and I give him a full-on thumbs-up with all my might, while Keisuke nods modestly.

Then we moved to our respective classes.

Then we moved to our respective classes.

“Well, it’s quite noisy, isn’t it? Well, it’s the end of summer vacation, so it’s to be expected.”

Less than five minutes remained before the bell rang, which meant that most of the boys and girls had probably gathered in class.

I gulped and stepped into the classroom.

Then, the class, which had been so colorful, quieted down to a scene as if it had been doused with cold water.

“……?”

“?”

As soon as everyone in the class saw me, they froze, their mouths half open. After a few seconds, they started sneaking around.

I walked towards the back where my seat was.

“This is as bad as ever.”

“Even after summer vacation, you’ll still be a freak ♫”, “Stinky”, “Die”, and other scribbles are written all over the place.

I’m no longer a freak and I don’t stink. No reason to die.

I’m not sure if it’s a good idea or not, but I’d like to try it out.

“Kondo-kun, good morning.”

“Ou.”

I replied appropriately without making eye contact with her.

“Ko-Kondo!? That’s Kondo!?”

Oh, I was surprised. Even though I’ve changed, that’s a bit of an overreaction, isn’t it?

“Ugh, noooo…… really that’s Kondo?”

“What the hell happened to…..?”

“I can’t believe it.”

I don’t care, I’m going to erase the graffiti. I wonder if I can make it to class in time. Will I make it to class in time?

As I was scrubbing the desk with the eraser at a furious pace, a nice smell tickled my nose.

“Geez! Kondo-kun is so cold!”

“Eh?”

Kanzaki’s cheeks were puffed out and her arms were crossed in front of me. Unlike me, who has black hair like her, but it is habitually curly, her long hair, which looks softer than silk, is swaying slightly, and she has a well endowed body suitable for a main heroine. She has a body that is well endowed for a main heroine, especially since she has her arms crossed, and her huge breasts seem to flaunt their presence with abandon.

She turns her head slightly away from me, her cheeks are flushed red, and she murmurs meaningfully, “Even though you were very kind to me at the time.”

“”He was kind to you!!!????””

Everyone in the class is surprised at her reaction.

I mean, I feel like this is a little bit misleading and dangerous in a lot of ways. ……

“Wow, okay! Sorry for my random response! Good morning! Kanzaki-san.”

“Hehe……keep up the good work!”

“Oh, yeah.”

She returned to her seat with a big smile on her face.

There are no more people who look at me with disdain.

There is one look that bothers me, but oh well, it doesn’t matter.

When the graffiti had disappeared, the pre-bell sounded.

First period ended and I headed to the bathroom to do my business.

After breathing a sigh of relief that the people who kicked my ass while I peed were gone, I finished my business, washed my hands, and walked to the doorway.

Then I saw a familiar blond man standing in the middle of the doorway, staring at me. He was looking at me with a soul-struck expression on his face, not like he usually does when he sees garbage.

What is he hiding? It was Hayama, Kanzaki’s childhood friend.

The moment I saw his face, the words he had said to me in the past came back to my mind.

[You’re disgusting, you fat fuck. I feel nauseous even when I’m with you. I feel nauseous just being with you. I wish you would just go away.]

I stared at him, my eyebrows furrowed. Then, I opened my mouth in a low tone to Hayama, who was still in the middle of the doorway after a few seconds, not moving.

“Get out of the way. I can’t get through.”

“Ha, yes……..”

Why are you suddenly using honorifics?

Hayama took his eyes off me and moved his feet to retreat. I exhaled briefly and tried to walk past. But

“Wait a minute!”

Hayama called out from behind me as I exited the restroom. I stopped and half turned around.

“What is it?”

“What happened with Kanna?”

Hayama asked nervously, his lips trembling.

“Nothing,” I replied blankly.

I replied with a blank expression before turning on my heel and heading back to class.

I helped Kanzaki, who was in trouble with a pick-up artist. But I have no intention of making a big show of this as if I were bragging about it.

Besides, there was nothing to feel guilty about between me and Kanzaki.

Above all, I had no obligation to answer him, considering what he used to say and do.

Hayama side

Staring at Kondo’s broad back in the distance, Hayama forgets to go into the bathroom and remains standing in the middle of the entrance again.

“Damn…….”

Hayama mutters secretly, clenching his fists and biting his lip.

I usally dont like how the rival character is portrayed as possessive and such in novels like this. Its often done because they were the original protagonist of the story so the author makes them seem unlikable just to make the MC seem better.

But this? Im god with it. Apparently this dude was a cunt in the original story too. Or so it was implied with the whole “hearing it and reading it are different ” he mentioned at the start.

See, be a twat and your girl is gonna get stolen.

I agree. I can’t discount the fact that these people do, indeed, exist, but I have to think further than that in order to judge the worth of a character.

Considering the setting this takes place in, the main rival doesn’t seem to have any necessary preset character description. After all, in the original eroge manga, he was NTRed and not much else was explained, so the only character trait needed for Hayama to remain consistent is love towards the main heroine. Everything else, just based on that alone, is fine for basic character construction. So, possessive and unlikable does not contradict anything.

…but those character traits DO contradict is any reason why Kanna may be willing to go on a date with the guy in the first place. Like, it doesn’t make sense. Am I supposed to Kanna is so desperate to go out with a guy that she gave Hayama a chance? Am I supposed to assume she is just too kind or naive to understand how terrible he is? Am I supposed to believe she was peer-pressured? All these explanations are seemingly contradicted by what was earlier written by the author, so I don’t know what to make out of this besides ill logic.

The point is, it just feels like the author wanted to make the rival as unlikable as possible so we don’t feel bad about him getting NTRed. Perhaps it would have been better if more properly implemented, but this does feel very forced. This is no longer an eroge manga: it is a real world with real people. It should be treated that way, in my opinion.

Uwah, this “childhood friend” is really pathetic. He shit talked the Mc when he thought he could get away with it and now that the Mc is fit enough to kick his ass the bravado goes out the window. He really is a classic gross bully.
